Rhinoplasty for a Broken Nose
A broken nose may include fractured bones, fractured cartridge in the nose, a septal hematoma where blood collects and forms a clot in the nose or a misalignment of the nose. In most cases, Rhinoplasty is the best solution for any of these issues. Getting medical attention for a broken nose should be first priority. If you have suffered nose injuries and believe it may be broken, below are the most common symptoms of a nose break.
- Nose bleeding after a trauma that lasts for more than 15 minutes
- Difficulty breathing after an injury
- Crooked or a misaligned nose
- Swelling and extreme pain of the nose
If you have suffered injury to your nose and are having any of the above symptoms you should seek medical attention within the first 72 hours. It is crucial to avoid complications to get the medical attention and proper testing completed as soon as possible after the incident.
You can visit an ear, nose, and throat surgeon to find out about any complications that may arise after the nasal surgery. A plastic surgeon will have advanced training in aesthetics and will be able to focus on the complications that may result from the rhinoplasty surgery.
Once your nose has been evaluated and checked for internal damage you may be required to undergo a CT scan to assist the physician in evaluating your septum, sinus channels, bone, cartilage and all surrounding tissues. Once any damage is discovered and complications such as blood clots are drained or repaired you may have to wait up to ten days to go forth with the rhinoplasty.
Even if you have nose realignment done in the physician’s office you will most likely still want to have the rhinoplasty surgery to completely correct the damage. The cosmetic surgeon will explain all the details of your specific surgery and whether or not it will be outpatient or require a hospital stay. In instances where you will be having an outpatient surgery you will need to have someone drive you home as you will have been under anesthesia for the 2 hour procedure.
