Types of Nasal Surgery In Dallas Texas

Nasal surgery is any surgical procedure performed inside or outside the nose. There are many reasons for a patient to undergo nasal surgery:

  • Repair a nasal injury
  • Change the shape or size of the nose
  • Correct nasal deformities (acquired or congenital)
  • Improve Breathing

There are two main categories of nose surgery to handle any of the above issues and more. Below is a list of the most popular types of nasal surgery being performed by physicians across the country.

Setoplasty

Setoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to correct defects and/or deformities of the nasal septum, this is the partition separating the nostrils. Setoplasty is al so performed to correct a deviated septum.

Deviated Septum is a condition where the septum is not in a straight vertical alignment, this can cause restricted airflow.

Setoplasty may also be performed to correct birth defects such as a cleft that may be affecting the nose and the nasal cavity.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty is the surgical procedure performed to repair defects of the nose that include reshaping and resizing. As we’ve seen here in Dallas, rhinoplasty is becoming increasingly popular in the cosmetic world as it can drastically change the appearance of one’s face by:

  • Narrowing the nostrils
  • Changing the nose size
  • Changing the nose shape
  • Altering the angle between nose and lips

Possible Risks

As with any surgery there are complications that can be associated with the procedures. The most common complications for Rhinoplasty are:

  • Infection
  • Nose Bleeding
  • Anesthesia Problems

There will be preparations to be made for any type of surgery you decide to undergo. Your physician will have specifics on what you need to do for your procedure. There are certain aspects to be considered for any of the above surgeries:

  • Age and Overall Health
  • Severity of Deformity or injury
  • Your tolerance to medications

You may be able to have the procedure done as an outpatient or there might be a short hospital stay required. You will be under anesthesia so if you are having outpatient surgery you will need someone to drive you home. The general time frame for each of the procedures is about 2 hours and you may notice some swelling for several months after. You may not get the final results of the surgery until after the first year.  You can expect to be up and around in just a few days and return to work or school after about a week of rest.
